Top 10 . . . . Horror Games

With Halloween right around the corner I thought it would be a nice idea to showcase our top 10 Horror Games of all time! Sure everyone has their favorites and everyone has that one game that they will forever remember, but this is the list that we have put together that showcases what it is like to be scared in a Video Game!

1089640189-0010. Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem
I think this title makes a lot of peoples top 10 list. The game will make you go mad in tandem with your character. If the setting and conflict aren’t enough to terrify you, the game will screw with you in the real world just as much as it does in the digital one. Push the sanity meter too far and you would lose the perspective, the screen or even your save file.

fatal_frame_ii_crimson_butterfly-cover9. Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly
Their only defense against ghosts is a camera, that’s only effective when used up close.
You are in control of a girl, whose only means to defeat the monsters to threaten her is to throw her into harm’s way and face the horror head on. The game makes you do this over and over again with every single enemy.

10211-28. Dead Space
Dead Space was a series that lived up to the hype that was delivered pre game. EA delivered a game that brought us to space and gave us a glimpse into a fear that many people do have. The fear of going to space and being left or having to battle something that is not known to human beings. Think DOOM but on a much freakier level.

1160272862-007. Condemned: Criminal Origins
Condemned was one of those titles that not many people would have given much of a thought to but it was a launch title for the Xbox 360 so for those of us that picked the system up on day one, didn’t have much to pick from when it came to games. Condemned was one of those games that many picked up and lived up to displaying the next gen at a very scary level. When you showcased your new systems many showcased it with Call of Duty 2 and Condemned.

F_E_A_R_Box6. F.E.A.R.
Just like the title says this game brought a lot of that when it first arrived. I remember having many moments with this game that made me jump, unfortunately the series did not follow the feel of the original as the series took more of a turn away from the Sci Fi creep fest to an action shooter.

Alone-in-the-dark_cover5. Alone in the Dark
Today, if you mention the title Alone in the Dark many give you that kind of glaring (Really) look, but what many people forget is that the original Alone in the Dark was actually a very good horror game before the disastrous reboot and the Uwe Bowel f*** up!

outlast-cover4. Outlast
If there is one game that has freeked me out more than any THIS generation it has to be Outlast on the PS4. It is very realistic and has a very high intensity level while playing.

resident-evil-2-ps1-cover-front3. Resident Evil 2
Sure this is a franchise that has catapulted this genre into what it is today, it was the sequel that gave us all the scares that we still remember today. Who cant forget the zombie dog jumping through the window while walking down the hallway in the police station?

Amnesia-The-Dark-Descent-Cover-Art2. Amnesia: The Dark Descent
This was the catalyst for survival horror. Imagine playing a horror game when you wake up in the middle of a dark, errie castle and you are trying to figure out what has happened to you. You run into monsters and the only thing you have to defend yourself is…..NOTHING! Your options are to either run, or hide and be very patient. Hows that for horror?

1100333368-001. Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill 2 is the thinking man’s horror game, which means you’ll be scratching your head as you attempt to unravel the plot, at least when you’re not busy screaming in terror. The hero of the game has come to the foggy titular town at the behest of a letter he received from his supposedly dead wife. He discovers a woman that looks just like her, yet she claims to have never met him. He also discovers a lot of monsters.

The town of Silent Hill is spooky in its own right, but there’s psychological horror at work here too. The enemies are designed to reflect the main character’s fears and flaws. This leads to some very weird foes, as well as one of the most shocking scenes in video game history. Silent Hill 2 is a landmark in both the horror game genre and our nightmares.
