Top 10: Video Game Heroes

Last month we took a look at the Top 10 Video Game Villains, and with that we look at the Top 10 Video Game Heroes of our time. There are those character that we fell in love with and would get into many arguments on who is the best. This is our list of our favorites!

631086-me3-shepard-male210. Commander Shepard (Mass Effect Series)

We had the pleasure of traveling the galaxy and fighting off the troublesome “Reapers” and when it came time at the end of the trilogy on deciding Shepard’s fate many of us had to make some very difficult decisions. Truly one of the most beloved characters that we even got a chance to design and carry on through 3 games!

Cloud_Strife9. Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy VII)

He’s the most recognized hero of the long running RPG game series. Why? It’s simple, Cloud’s got a massive sword and spiky hair. A mercenary and ex-member of a genetically augmented military unit, he fights for a resistance group called “Avalanche”, and is driven by a feud with Sephiroth, another genetically enhanced warrior who comes to believe that he’s a god.

Metroidprime3_18. Samus (Metroid Franchise)

Samus Aran is a fictional character and the protagonist of the Metroid science fiction action-adventure game series by Nintendo. She was introduced in the 1986 video game Metroid. Samus Aran is an ex-Galactic Federation soldier who turned into an intergalactic bounty hunter, usually fitted with a powered armor suit with weapons that include directed energy weapons and missiles.

2122471-pinballparty7. Sonic (Sonic The Hedgehog Franchise)

Okay, so he hasn’t been in that many memorable games lately. Despite this, Sonic remains a beloved gaming icon from a time when a speedy blue hedgehog with sneakers was considered the Red Bull version of a certain chubby plumber, who is also on this list!

Kratos_Real6. Kratos (God of War Franchise)

Who can forget our troubled hero that had to witness such heartache at the beginning of the series. We did however get revenge for the anger that Kratos felt, as well as us as gamers. Even though there is still much for us to gather from Krato’s troubled past however we did feel a sense of closure at the end of God of War 3!

Solid_Snake_(GOTP)5. Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid Franchise)

The aging warrior destined to die in combat, sporting a growling voice and love for radio banter, he continues to confound his exclamation-thinking enemies by hiding under cardboard boxes. We got to see a bit more into the future of Solid Snake with MGS V, and I think there is much more to discover.

MegaManSSB44. Mega Man (Mega Man Franchise)

The Blue Bomber has taken on the robotic forces of the notorious Dr. Wily for several decades. In that time he has consistently saved humanity, while showcasing the ability to absorb the abilities of his fallen foes. We haven’t seen much of him in the past few years, however we did get a chance to see him FINALLY added to the roster in Super Smash Bros.

3909140-link3. Link (The Legend of Zelda Franchise)

How do you get to be the third best character of all time without ever saying a word? Easy, make green a fashion statement, sport a wicked sword and shield, and become the “Hero of Time”! His franchise is ageless and has become one of Nintendo’s staples.

Master-chief-square-542x542-5bff9fc0c96b4f07adbdd3f6d68f84b82. Master Chief (Halo Franchise)

You can sum up this guy with the words silent and deadly. Not only has this Spartan super-soldier endeared himself to fans with his brass voice, but he has become the symbol of the Xbox and Microsoft, and has been ageless since his initial release in 2001

mario1. Mario (Super Mario Bros. Franchise)

Taking the top spot on our list is the little red plumber with an ability to jump to great heights. Built on technical limitations, he has not only saved the princess and the Mushroom Kingdom countless times, but the entire gaming industry from the video game crash of the 80s. Sure he’s a stereotypical Italian character created by a Japanese company, but this lovable hero continue to impress us with his A+ gaming outings.
